The Office of Justice Programs and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Office of Minority Health have collaborated to create a new resource, “Returning to the Community: Health Care After Incarceration.” This guide aims to support individuals transitioning from incarceration to the community by providing information on accessing health coverage and services. It addresses the gap in health coverage often faced by those re-entering society and emphasizes the importance of addressing immediate health needs alongside housing and employment concerns. This resource is tailored to the unique needs of individuals with a history of incarceration and encourages the involvement of family, community partners, and other stakeholders in facilitating access to health care services.
