The Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) has announced the availability of $2 million in funding to support community-based opioid use disorder (OUD) prevention services across the state. This funding comes from the Mallinckrodt Opioid Settlement, which resulted from a multistate investigation led by former Attorney General Josh Shapiro. The funding aims to prevent the onset of OUD through primary prevention activities, such as education, community coalitions, and support programs.
The DDAP will award approximately 10 grants of up to $200,000 each to eligible community-based organizations, with a focus on health equity. The program encourages applicants to propose activities such as:
- Community anti-drug coalitions and evidence-informed prevention programs.
- Educational campaigns and youth-focused strategies to prevent drug misuse.
- Initiatives addressing mental health and resilience skills to prevent opioid misuse.
Priority will be given to applicants in areas with high overdose death rates, including Philadelphia, Allegheny County, and other counties with elevated death rates. Read the full article for details.
Next Steps:
- Eligible organizations can submit applications electronically by 12:00 PM on December 13, 2024.
- Applications will be competitively reviewed, based on adherence to the guidelines and timely submission.
- DDAP will focus on selecting grantees that align with the criteria of health equity and effective prevention strategies in high-need areas.
