What are youth saying about gambling?

When youth were asked if they gamble, nearly all said no. But when asked if they have ever been given a scratch-off ticket, nearly all said yes. We can see a lack of education around gambling in youth. Many can not recall having a conversation about gambling with their parents, guardians, teachers, doctors, or faith-based leaders. So, do youth know what gambling is?

Today, we see mobile gambling, sports betting, and loot/mystery boxes in video games. These may seem harmless but youth gambling can lead to financial problems, stress, addiction, loss of property, poor school performance, and family problems.

March is Problem Gambling Awareness month. This month, have a conversation about the risks of gambling with the youth and young adults in your family or those whom you serve.
