Public Health Training Collaborative

Mid-Atlantic Training Collaborative for Health and Human Services (MATCHHS).

MATCHHS works to strengthen the capabilities of the public health workforce to support the delivery of high-quality public health services and promote integrated HIV services throughout the region. It consists of organizations dedicated to training healthcare professionals about HIV, Hepatitis, TB, reproductive health, mental health, prevention and treatment of substance use disorder, sexually transmitted illness, utilization of telehealth, the health of women, infants, children, adolescents, and children and youth with special health care needs.

The members of MATCHHS are federally funded training and technical assistance (T/TA) centers service Health and Human Services Region 3. All partner training centers offer virtual and in-person training and capacity-building TA. Explore below to learn more about the services and audiences served.

  • Area Health Education Centers recruit and train health care professionals committed to underserved and under-represented populations. The centers help bring the resources of academic medicine to address local community health needs. The AHEC for each state in HHS Region 3  is listed as follows:

  • Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training Programs, increases the supply of behavioral health professionals while also improving distribution of a quality behavioral health workforce and thereby increasing access to behavioral health services. A special focus is placed on the knowledge and understanding of children, adolescents, and transitional-aged youth at risk for behavioral health disorders.
  • The Eastern Pennsylvania-Delaware Geriatric Education Center provides training and educational opportunities to health care professionals, faculty, and students who are currently involved in or interested in improving the health and quality of life of older adults and their caregivers.
  • The MidAtlantic AIDS Education and Training Center (AIDS ETC) provides HIV/AIDS education, resource materials, and technical assistance to health care professionals. The AIDS ETC also assists facilities with program development, policy modification, and expansion of services, long-range planning, and other capacity-building initiatives.
  • The Mid-Atlantic Regional Public Health Training Center, extends its services to various community-based agencies, including behavioral health agencies and federally qualified health centers, benefiting thousands of personnel. Furthermore, MAR-PHTC plays a crucial role in training public health students in real-world settings, aiming to inspire them to pursue careers in undeserved areas post-graduation.
  • The Mid-Atlantic Telehealth Resource Center serves as a focal point for advancing the effective use of telehealth support access to telehealth services in rural and underserved communities.
  • Primary Care Associations provide training and technical assistance based on statewide and regional needs to help health centers improve programmatic, clinical, and financial performance and operations. The PCA for each state in HHS Region 3  is listed as follows:

  • State Offices of Rural Health serves as a resource and advocate for healthcare in rural areas within a specific state. Its primary purpose is to address the unique healthcare challenges and disparities that rural communities often face. The Rural Health office for each state in HHS Region 3  is listed as follows:

  • The STD/HIV Prevention Training Center at Johns Hopkins, in partnership with the Baltimore City Health Department, the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has offered clinical training to health care providers offering services to individuals infected with or at risk for infection with sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV.
  • The Technology Transfer Centers develops and strengthens the specialized behavioral healthcare and primary healthcare workforce that provides prevention, treatment and recovery support services for substance use disorder (SUD) and mental illness.
